We believe that being civically engaged is extremely important because it allows the community to become more united, and it also allows students to develop the leadership skills that they will use in their future endeavors. Strong Women Strong Girls is a mentoring program that creates cycles of mutual empowerment for women and girls by pushing female access towards a higher level of leadership. Our initiative, Strong Women for Stronger Societies, aims to transform Miami Dade College women into leaders by using the four elements of transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration to promote student civic engagement across the community. We believe that by utilizing the positive attributes in female community leaders we will be able to create a stronger society while benefitting our campus environment.
Through the Strong Women for Stronger Societies initiative we will host a series of leadership workshops by female community leaders and Strong Women Strong Girls that will develop our MDC women professionally. By implementing semiannual service projects we give MDC women opportunities to exercise the skills gained from the professional workshops. We will engage our community by raising awareness of the barriers opposing women for successful college completion. The program will work closely with the Center for Community Involvement at MDC and SGA in order to heighten awareness of our mission and transform our MDC women into community organizers and social entrepreneurs.
